What are the selection criteria?

When making our selection, we naturally looked at the features offered by the various solutions on the market. But in reality, a time and attendance tool needs to get straight to the point, and doesn't require as much functional coverage as other categories of software.

As a result, the main focus has been on ensuring that the solutions on offer can :

  • accurately clock in and out, break times, etc. ;
  • generate employee time/attendance sheets.

Furthermore, organisations of different sizes have different requirements. In the majority of cases, smaller companies will prefer a simple tool that is, if possible, free of charge. Larger companies will be looking for additional functionality (to manage holidays, for example), or at least the possibility of integration with a more global human resources management solution.

This selection has been designed to meet these different needs.

Agendrix

What's Agendrix all about? To simplify personnel management. It supports a range of business needs, including schedule management, time and attendance management and workplace management.

As a result, it offers a rather sophisticated time and attendance application, available (among other features) from the Pro version at 4 euros/month/user.

👍 The benefits of Agendrix

  • Different time and attendance systems : tablet, mobile, computer, landline phone, RFID badge reader, barcode.
  • Biometrics: the software includes facial recognition technology; the employee is photographed when entering or leaving and you are notified in the event of an anomaly.
  • Reinforced control: if you operate via mobile, define a zone in which employees can clock in and out. If you operate via computer, restrict clocking in to predefined IP addresses.

😀 O ur opinion of Agendrix

When it comes to pointing technologies, it's fair to say that Agendrix is truly comprehensive. What's more, it includes additional functionalities for managing and monitoring your employees' working time. What's more, most users praise its ease of use, as well as the quality of the support provided by the Agendrix teams. And all at a very attractive price.

We recommend this software to companies looking for a sophisticated time and attendance solution.

Alobees

Aimed at SMEs, Alobees is a complete web-based solution for monitoring worksites, backed up by a mobile application. It offers a wide range of functions, including site planning, document management and job management.

These include tools for recording site hours, developed to save time for both employees and supervisors.

👍 The benefits of Alobees

  • Simplified clocking in and out: employees clock in and out in just a few clicks, directly from the worksite, using the Alobees mobile app. The data is then sent to payroll for easier processing.
  • Reinforced control: managers can easily access employees' timesheets to check information and validate working hours.
  • Advanced resource planning: Alobees stands out for its advanced worksite planning functions, enabling planning to be carried out as closely as possible to requirements, but also to the available workforce.

😀 O ur opinion of Alobees

If you're looking for time and attendance software tailored to the needs of the construction industry, then turn to Alobees, capable of meeting all the sector's challenges in terms of working time management.

This platform will appeal to managers and HR staff looking for greater simplicity and fluidity in their administrative processes. But operational staff will also appreciate Alobees and its mobile application, as they gain greater autonomy and transparency in declaring their hours.

👍 The benefits of Bizneo Time Manager

Combo

Combo is a comprehensive, easy-to-use and highly collaborative HR management tool that simplifies the day-to-day work of retailers and field teams in all sectors.

With advanced features like a planning tool, a payroll preparation module and a simple, efficient digital time clock.

👍 The benefits of Combo

  • Digital signature and photo-taking : as they arrive, leave and take their breaks, your employees can be photographed at random for more reliable control.
  • Sign-in: employees can simply sign in for breaks during the shift and enter their meal details at the end of the shift.
  • Planning and payroll module: no more double entries and checks every week, thanks to automated staff planning and absence management.

😀 O ur opinion of Combo

Combo is much more than just time and attendance software: in addition to its advanced digital time clock module that can be adapted to your teams, it has essential HR functions that are easy to learn.

Its integration with a wide range of tools (accounting software, payroll, cash register, etc.) saves you time in managing your commercial activity .

Eurécia Time tracking

Eurécia Time Tracking is one of the modules in the Eurécia HR management software. This comprehensive module includes a clocking-in and clocking-out tool.

The aim? To make it easier for employees to clock in and out, as well as for HR staff, who have a range of functions at their disposal to monitor working hours efficiently.

👍 The benefits of Eurécia Time Tracking

  • Easy to use: with this software, clocking in and out is a one-click operation, on a computer or mobile phone. The ergonomic, modern interface makes it easy for employees to get to grips with.
  • Automation: HR departments benefit from software that goes beyond simply clocking in and out employees, automating a number of tasks to save time and avoid errors caused by manual input.
  • Dashboard: optimise your HR management with a dashboard that records a large amount of data in real time (working hours, clocking-in anomalies, etc.).

😀 O ur opinion of Eurécia Time tracking

Compared with other time tracking software, Eurécia's tool immediately appeals for its modernity and elegance. As for functional coverage, it proves to be fairly comprehensive.

Note, however, that its basic version does not include certain functions that other solutions offer natively... or even free of charge! We're thinking, for example, of managing holiday requests. This software can therefore be considered as part of the construction of a more comprehensive HR tool, supplemented by modules.

Featuring a multitude of functions and an ultra-ergonomic interface, it is very pleasant to use on a daily basis and centralises all your HR activity.

Users also appreciate the perfect synergy between the machines and the software, as well as between the different modules of this software: the flow of data is smoother as a result, for finer, more efficient management of human resources.

Finally, take advantage of premium support, with deployment and support provided by the Kelio teams.

Open Time Clock

Open Time Clock, an application aimed at all types of business, is available on both PC and mobile. It also offers different clocking modes.

With the free version, you can clock in and out teams and take advantage of additional functions such as holiday management.

There is also a more comprehensive pay version.

👍 The benefits of Open Time Clock

  • Additional features: if you opt for the paid version, you gain access to interesting additional features, such as facial recognition.
  • Unlimited number of users: Open Time Clock is available for an unlimited number of users, even as part of its free package.

😀 Our opinion of Open Time Clock

At first glance, Open Time Clock's interface doesn't look the most modern. What's more, the software is in English.

But while these aspects may put you off at first, this application deserves its place in this ranking thanks to its functional coverage... all for free! So it's sure to appeal to organisations that don't want to invest in time clock software.

Rippling

The Rippling platform provides small and medium-sized businesses with centralised, intuitive human resources management. This comprehensive HRIS, with 20 different modules, includes a host of functions for managing your human resources, including time and attendance tools.

Rippling also handles the management of your employees' schedules, their attendance time and the monitoring of leave and absences.

👍 The benefits of Rippling

  • Improved accessibility: your employees can clock in and out easily from anywhere, using a computer, mobile phone or tablet, thanks in particular to QR codes.
  • Presence guarantee: the option of using clocking in with a selfie means you can be sure your employees are present at their place of work on time.

😀O ur opinion of Rippling

Rippling offers you a fluid and intuitive time and attendance experience. Its easy-to-use interface allows your employees to clock in quickly, and from anywhere.

The big plus is that it integrates seamlessly with your other HR management tools, simplifying the work of your teams.

In short, it's a solid choice for companies looking to optimise their management of employee time and attendance.

SwiftTime by Soniga

SwiftTime by Soniga is a small, easy-to-use time and attendance software that gets straight to the point.

Available for PCs, Macs, smartphones and tablets, it helps you keep track of employees' working hours and optimise holiday management (checking the availability of holiday time).

👍 The advantages of SwiftTime by Soniga

  • Free version: SwiftTime by Soniga is completely free for up to 15 users. Perfect for small organisations.
  • Additional features: while this software focuses on the essentials, there are still features added to clocking in and out, such as timesheet report generation.
  • Security: the publisher communicates about the security of data hosted on its cloud-based server.

😀 Our review of SwiftTime by Soniga

SwiftTime by Soniga is perfect if you want a simple tool with basic functionality, and if you don't attach importance to the design (which, here, looks a little austere). So it's perfect for small businesses that don't want to spend money on simple time clocking software.

TimeTrex

TimeTrex, Workforce Management software, offers a time and attendance tool that is open source. It can be downloaded to any type of environment, whether you're using a PC, Mac or even Linux. Another advantage: it's completely free!

You can, however, add additional features for a fee, such as invoicing or expense tracking.

👍 The benefits of TimeTrex

  • Unlimited number of users: despite being free, TimeTrex supports an unlimited number of users.
  • Functional coverage: as well as clocking in and out, this software provides some interesting features, even in its free version, such as a scheduling or payroll processing module.
  • Automatic transfers: with TimeTrex, automatically transfer wages to employees.

😀 Our opinion of TimeTrex

TimeTrex's main advantage remains that it's free, unlimited in time and number of users (which isn't the case with some of its competitors). So it makes a good little time clock if, once again, you're more interested in saving money than in design. What's more, in terms of functionality, it holds up pretty well.

Note, however, that open source generally involves a little more technical work than SaaS hosting... even if, in this case, you won't encounter many difficulties.

Traxxeo

Does your company have mobile teams (construction site, maintenance, etc.)? Are you an SME, an ETI or a large group? Then Traxxeo and its Digital Timesheets application are for you.

Its Time and Activity Management suite is packed with features. It
In particular, it promises easy, supervised clocking-in for the field, as well as comprehensive monitoring for HR and payroll.

👍 The benefits of Traxxeo

  • Mobile time clock application: the Digital Timesheets mobile time clock application, which may or may not be linked to a time clock system, is used to record hours worked live.
  • Offline mode: in the event of a connection problem, the tool works offline. All data is synchronised as soon as the network is available again.
  • Takes account of the specific needs of the construction industry. Traxxeo has been designed to
meet the various specific needs of the construction industry (management of variable elements, multiple validation circuits, etc.).

    😀 Our opinion of Traxxeo

If you operate in the construction sector, Traxxeo promises total optimisation of the clocking-in process for your employees, unlike other software presented in this comparison. Everything is designed to adapt to the specificities of the sector, as shown by the offline mode (the network doesn't always work properly outdoors!).

Traxxeo's connected time and attendance system also makes things easier for other company departments, starting with HR. Management controllers and site managers, meanwhile, have the data they need to keep budgets under better control.

    ZEUS

ZEUS is a comprehensive time and activity management solution for SMEs and mid-sized businesses, designed to minimise the time spent on administrative tasks.

It includes a range of functions for efficiently managing schedules, production, access and, of course, time and attendance. And it's flexible enough to adapt to any configuration.

    👍 The benefits of ZEUS

    • Numerous time-clock systems: with ZEUS, you can benefit from a time-clock with a badge, a mobile smartphone time-clock, a virtual time-clock on a computer or even a touch-screen time-clock via an HR portal.
    • Functional coverage: ZEUS also includes a range of applications (planning, leave, production, etc.) to help you manage your human resources more modernly, efficiently and finely.
    • Reliability: take advantage of reliable, German-quality hardware and enhanced security.

😀 O ur opinion of ZEUS

We like ZEUS for its ability to streamline your time and activity management operations as a whole, drawing on both robust technology and hardware. In other words, don't worry about security or time tracking.

What's more, the solution is highly flexible. With its modular nature and the option of deploying it on site or in SaaS mode, it is perfectly suited to your specific needs.

How are staff clocked in and out?

Staff clocking-in involves recording employees' working hours in order to monitor their presence and productivity. There are several ways of doing this

    • manual clocking-in using a paper register or Excel sheet ;
    • electronic clocking-in using a terminal installed in the company;
    • clocking in using a mobile application, which promises great flexibility for teams on the move or working remotely;
    • clocking in and out on a computer, using an online portal or an application available on their workstation;
    • biometric systems, i.e. the use of fingerprints, facial recognition or retinal scans to validate employees' identities.

Whichever system you choose, in all cases you need to define clear rules for clocking in and out, then communicate them to all staff. Also make sure that your system complies with the laws in force, particularly in terms of personal data confidentiality (especially for biometric systems).

💡 Take a closer look at the subject with our article Control your employees' time with these 3 methods of clocking in and out.

What is a time clock application?

As a reminder, a time clock application refers to software designed to monitor and record employees' working hours. It allows employees to clock in, out and break times via various devices, such as smartphones.

    Features include

    • recording employees' hours
    • real-time monitoring of these hours by managers;
    • generation of reports and analyses
    • integration with payroll to facilitate salary calculations.

The use of these applications brings a host of benefits, starting with significant time savings thanks to the automation of the time-tracking process. At the same time, they help organisations to comply with regulations on working hours and rest periods.

How do you choose your time and attendance software?

As we have seen in this article, there are a number of time and attendance software packages available on the market. How do you choose?

To choose the best solution, it's a good idea to take stock of your real needs beforehand. In most cases, a basic or even free tool will do the job.

However, larger organisations often have more demanding requirements. How does the time and attendance software adapt to a growing number of employees? Is it suitable for new ways of working, such as teleworking?

Finally, functional coverage and integration with existing tools (HRIS, payroll management, etc.) sometimes come into the equation. For some companies, the switch from time clocks to clocking in and out software comes with the prospect of saving time. They will therefore opt for a solution that makes their working time management processes as fluid as possible.
