We spoke to Alexandre Dos Santos, co-founder and CEO of Affilae, about its SaaS solution. The start-up, recently established in Bordeaux, provides the tools and confidence needed to manage affiliation relationships in a market undergoing a revolution. Read all our reviews of affiliation solutions.

What is Affilae used for and who is it aimed at?

The Affilae online solution has been developed to give advertisers transparency and autonomy in tracking their conversions, and more generally in their traffic acquisition campaigns. We have worked on a number of areas to achieve this. Firstly, the business model: we no longer charge commission but a monthly subscription fee, enabling us to act as a trusted third party for our advertisers.

Secondly, we have developed direct tracking so that we can trace our advertisers ' conversion tunnels and see exactly which affiliates have contributed to each sale or lead.

Finally, we have added a brand new intelligent commission-sharing method based on weighting, which allows our advertisers to better distribute the value created between affiliates.

How has Affilae evolved in its 3 years of existence?

We launched Affilae in beta in the summer of 2012. For 6 months, we worked hard to improve the product and our business model, which we wanted to be commission-free so that we wouldn't be both judge and jury in our customers' business.

200 affiliate programmes

Today, 3 years on, we have made great progress. We now have over 200 customer programmes and a marketplace of affiliates, all of which are growing by the day to provide our customers with even more business opportunities.

New features to come

We're constantly on the move! Our technical team is currently working on overhauling our APIs so that we can offer more flexible technical developments and at the same time more advanced data analysis for our advertisers. This means we'll be able to provide them with new, relevant data for analysing their attributive tracking. We are also working on new personalised reporting tools.

What are the advantages of a solution like Affilae?

With Affilae, we wanted to democratise affiliation by cutting out the middleman in the form of platforms and putting affiliates and advertisers in direct contact. This enables advertisers to develop their network of partner sites and monitor this activity via a single tracking software package. This means they can diversify their sources of traffic.

The other point we worked on was the business model. We don't take any commission on sales, and instead offer a monthly subscription with no commitment. This allows us to position ourselves as a genuine trusted third party and to be a source of ideas for our advertisers without being both judge and jury in their activities.

Is it possible to automate campaign management?

Of course you can! We have developed a bi-directional API that enables us to offer advertisers automated integration for conversion validation, new profiles, creation of advertising elements or even to offer us data for processing with Affilae. The possibilities for automation are numerous.
